FlaSSH
An SSH client that doesn't lag when you type. Mankind deserves a less infuriating SSH experience.
- When
- 2026
- Built with
- C, libssh
In a normal SSH session every key you press travels to the other machine and back before it appears. On a slow link that is the rubber-band feeling everyone knows. Most of that travelling isn't needed.
FlaSSH edits the line on your side. Typing, moving the cursor, recalling history and completing with Tab all happen instantly, locally. The network is used once, when you press Enter.
What it gives you
- A two-line prompt with the user, host and directory, and a caret that turns red when the last command failed.
- Suggestions as you type, in the style of the fish shell, from your history.
- Tab completion of remote files that doesn't wait on the network, because a background thread keeps a listing of the remote directory fresh.
- Your remote history from the first command. It fetches the remote machine's bash and zsh history when it connects.
- Syntax colouring of the line as you type it.
Programs that need a real terminal, such as vim, btop or sudo, are passed straight through. Those can't be made lag-free this way, and FlaSSH doesn't pretend they can.
It is a client only: it is written in C on libssh and connects to any ordinary SSH server.
