TermUI
Use a terminal as your phone's home screen. Termux, tmux and a launch command, in place of icons.

TermUI makes Termux the default launcher on an Android phone. Press home and you're in a terminal.
The screen is a tmux session split into three panes. You open apps with a launch command that lists what is installed. Because it is tmux, you can split and rearrange the panes into your own layout and have it restored.
It grew out of an earlier attempt, TermuxLauncher, a text home screen written in Python. It is the most starred repository on my own GitHub account.
The same wish, a phone home screen that isn't a grid of icons, later became ZrnDotMatrix.
