This was a research project for the computing faculty at NSBM: a question-answering assistant that runs entirely on local hardware.
The assistant runs a local model through Ollama, on a consumer GPU. It answers from a local database of course material, and can accurately handle questions on distributed systems, networking, cloud computing, databases and the university itself. A /search command adds a web search to the same pipeline when the local material isn't enough.
The published paper on this subject is Personalizing University Support, which won a Best Paper Award at ICARC 2026.
There is a second version, RAG V2. I used the same approach again in UniAssist and in VISUM's recommendations.
