UniAssist
A study tool for Linux: select some text, press a shortcut, and get an explanation drawn from your own course notes, as a notification.

- 2025

- Python, Ollama, ChromaDB
UniAssist sits in the background while you study. When you hit something you don't follow, you select it and press a key combination. A moment later the explanation appears as a desktop notification. You never leave what you were reading.
The answers come from your own material. You give it your course notes as a PDF, it builds a searchable database from them, and each question is answered by a local model that first looks up the relevant pages. So it explains things the way your course does.
Everything runs on your own machine through Ollama, so it works offline and nothing you study is sent anywhere. I've used it on Plasma, GNOME and awesome.
It is a study aid. Use it within your institution's academic integrity rules.
